About giftgoddess.net

Welcome to Gift Goddess.  We are proud to offer a wide variety of gifts - baskets, boxes, and a little bit of everything else!  Customer service is our number one goal; if you aren't satisfied, we aren't satisfied!

Now, for a little about who we are - or who I am.  I am the owner of Darker Violet Designs, a small web and graphic design and IT solutions company in Missouri.  So small that it's mostly just me, in fact.  Mostly.  My husband helps out a lot, when he's not working his day job.  He's the programmer and developer, head technician, and graphics designer when I don't think I can handle the task.  I'm pretty sure he knows just about everything worth knowing about computers and networking.  He's also an insanely talented programmer; he can read a few pages of a book about a particular language, and then write some amazing code that does amazing things.  So far, however, he hasn't come up with code that will wash the dishes and fold the laundry.  I'm in charge of layout, marketing, billing, customer service and support, and many other things, when I'm not taking care of my son.  Between us, we have about twenty years' experience in IT and IT-related fields.

We started designing websites seriously in 1999, but with both of us working full-time jobs, it was hard to seriously devote time to acquiring new clients, so business remained on a word-of-mouth basis for a few years.  I created some graphics on and off for a political site (you can see some of those images and much more here), but with the birth of my son, that fell by the wayside.

In 2001, I quit my job as a software support assistant supervisor, trainer, and subject matter expert to focus more on other things.  I started working on expanding our list of services, and started to market my company a little bit more.  We picked up a few more clients, and have been working fairly steadily since then.

Just for fun, though, and because I wanted to do some "adult" things, I started selling Avon when my son turned a year old.  I held an Open House, created a gift basket for a raffle, and got lots of compliments.  That got me to thinking - I have several websites with plenty of web space, I know how to create the sites, why don't I sell these online?  Better yet, why don't I help other people sell their gifts online?!  Knowing that there are a great many people who create wonderful gifts but don't have the time, money, or inclination to get their own site developed, I took that idea and ran with it.  giftgoddess.net was born on November 20th, 2004, with a complete overhaul started in mid-December of 2006, to include all the companies I am a representative for and also to include web and graphic design.

I hope you've enjoyed your visit; please, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you,

Shelly
